About TBAISD

TBAISD LogoThe Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District (TBAISD) is one of 56 ISDs in the state of Michigan, encompassing sixteen public school districts, five public school academies and fourteen private and parochial schools within Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska and Leelanau counties. When ISDs were established in 1962, the name "Intermediate" School District was chosen to reflect the role as a link between local school districts and the Michigan Department of Education. As the scope and responsibility of schools grew, however, so did the role of the ISD to include providing its local districts with those programs and services which are either too expensive or too extensive to be offered individually.

The vision of the Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District is:

To be the best educational system in the world

This vision is accomplished by:
  • Leadership for lifelong learning from birth through adulthood.
  • The highest levels of student achievement.
  • The contribution of all learners as productive citizens of the 21st Century global community.
  • The use of data to make sound decisions resulting in the development and delivery of educational best practices.

Our Mission:

Leading Lifetime Learning

Our mission demands that we:

  • Provide organizational and instructional leadership
  • Collaborate for meaningful change
  • Use best practices
  • Assure every learner achieves.
