Become a Certified Teacher

Talent Together helps individuals become certified teachers by providing a new route to certification that aims to address teacher shortages across the state of Michigan. This initiative, launched in spring 2023, opens new pathways to becoming a certified teacher and removes barriers, like financial constraints, that have hindered some in the past from pursuing a career in education.

In coordination with Michigan universities and colleges, Talent Together’s earn-while-you-learn model allows aspiring teachers to earn a free degree and certification to prepare them for work in the classroom, while offering financial incentives through paid mentorships and on-the-job training.

As a participating ISD, essentially anyone in North Ed’s region with a high school diploma is eligible to apply for Talent Together, whether or not you currently work in a school setting.

School Safety Law

On January 1, 2006, all Michigan School Districts must comply with a series of Public Acts related to school safety (2005 PA 129-131 and 138). Commencing January 1, 2006, all employees, new and current, will be required to have a criminal history record check conducted by the Michigan State Police (MSP) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The new law also requires you, as an employee of the district/school to self-report to your employer and the Michigan Department of Education when you have been arraigned/charged with a crime. You must do so within three business days or you will be guilty of an additional crime. Employees will report this information to the Personnel Office at 231-922-6262. Go to SafeSchools for more information.
